Tulip 'Queen of Night': The Iconic, Mysterious Black Tulip for Your Garden

Discover the deep, velvety splendor of the iconic Tulip 'Queen of Night'. This legendary variety has been an absolute favorite for decades, renowned for its unparalleled dark beauty. While no tulip is truly pitch-black, the 'Queen of Night' with its deep purple, almost inky-black color comes closest to this fascinating shade. It adds unparalleled drama and elegance to any spring garden.

The Tulip 'Queen of Night' is a single late tulip, meaning it blooms with a classic, elegant goblet shape. Its petals feel velvety soft, and the deep color truly shines in full sun, where nuances of purple and black intertwine. This majestic tulip reaches a stately height of approximately 50-60 cm (20-24 inches), making it stand out in any border. It's perfect for creating a chic and mysterious atmosphere in mixed borders and flower beds, or as an impressive cut flower in a modern and stylish bouquet.

Plant the 'Queen of Night' in larger groups for maximum visual impact, or combine it with bright white daffodils, silver-leaved plants, or fresh green ferns to further accentuate its deep colors. It thrives best in a sunny to partially shaded location with well-draining soil and will enrich your garden from mid to late spring with its unique, enchanting appearance. Its mysterious allure, velvety petals, and architectural form make it a true eye-catcher and an iconic species in the garden.

This famous Tulip originated in 1944 and has been a top performer for many years. Some find this tulip beautiful, others may not. We are delighted to have this magical Tulip in our assortment that evokes so much. A classically beautiful bloom with tall, elegant stems – that's this Single Late Tulip.

Looking for an even darker alternative? The Tulip Paul Scherer is often considered the darkest tulip in the world, boasting an even more intense, almost inky-black color that adds incredible depth.
